Viola "Starry Night"

I've just begun teaching my online macro/close-up photography class, so I have macro on my mind these days. I bought these violas at the local garden center and set them on my kitchen counter to photograph. Not sure which version I prefer, but I do like them both. ©Carol Leigh

More lovely photos, Carol. Blessings on your macro class group. Oh, yes, no ice. Think I like the top viola best. Both are lovely but like the softness of background. You make me want to macro so will take a break and pull out the camera. You do inspire. jc in nc

So do I! I think the delicacy of the first one better fits the absolutely lovely capture of the flower.

Both versions are beautiful and hold strong on their own. Side-by-side comparisons are always interesting. I like the first version best with the simplicity of the background and showing more emphasis on the subject - leaving some space, distance and a 3D effect. What's that saying, "Sometimes less is more..." Great work Carol!

To JC in NC ... You want to do more macro? Well, aren't you off to photograph bears in Alaska soon? Perfect for close-ups of bear teeth, bear claws, heh, heh ...

To Diane and Stephan ... I believe I agree with you both. #1 is the more compelling image of the two. Thanks for the feedback.
