Latest work: "Depth Gauge Five"

Not too sure about this one, so I'm letting it "steep" awhile.

I photographed a rusty metal tank, a number "5" on a weathered depth gauge, and an extremely grungy painted wall to create this mashup of color and texture.

Sometimes these things come together so quickly, so smoothly and they look great. Other times it takes hours, and I'm still not sure. Which is the case here. We shall see. . .

Number 5 Flotation Device

A lot of my work is done using muted colors of sepia, brown, black, grey, etc. During this rainy Oregon winter, I decided to shake things up a bit and put some color into my life. So here is this big number 5, seemingly floating in a sea of yellow and red and orange.

Lucky number?

Do you have a lucky number? A number that seems to come up for you more often than not? Mine's five. Maybe because I was born in May? Don't know. Here I've combined a photo I took of a metal tag with a photo I took of the interior of a sea shell. I like the overall luminous quality. Five. Lucky? If so, the sliding glass door will indeed be installed today. Unfortunately, there's no deck outside it yet, so that first step outside will be an unlucky one. ©Carol Leigh, wishing you luck today, no matter what number comes up...

Five Star

Here I combined a star and a colorful wall found in South Beach, Oregon with a number 5 from a train car in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with a board covered with fish scales in Newport, Oregon. Triangles from a stairway in Santa Fe, paint, rivets, and overall grunge add to the texture. Not yet available for sale. ©Carol Leigh

Aquatic Five

Consisting of a "5" from a train in Santa Fe, New Mexico, rivets from a door (also in Santa Fe), rusty metal from a fishing salvage yard in Oregon, and yet another door from Santa Fe, this piece has a definite watery, aquatic look to it.
